On Friday 13th October the BID Team joined the neighbourhood police team to carry out a weapons sweep along Spon Street. Reported crime figures show that Spon Street, Corporation St, Hales St and the Trinity/Burges loop have seen a significant increase in anti-social behaviour over the past months and the police have called the businesses together to discuss and support those affected by the issues.

Our Deputy Manager, Lyndsay joined Sergeant Adam Lewis to speak to business owners in the area, raising awareness of child exploitation. Flyers were handed out to pass to staff members with information on how to spot red flags and how to report any incidents that raise suspicion.

To learn more about child exploitation, what to look for and how to report anything that just doesn’t feel right, please visit childrenssociety.org.uk. If you are concerned about a child and think it’s an emergency, please don’t hesitate to call 999, or if it’s not an emergency, please call 101.

QUARTERLY BID MEETING ROUND UP
On 18th October, we held our second quarterly BID networking meeting at Turtle Bay. The marketing team joined us to talk to businesses about plans for Christmas, announcing that the BID will be designing and delivering thousands of leaflets to local residents in order to draw footfall into the city centre over the festive period. BID Manager, Jo provided a round up of projects, including Best Bar None, Street Patrol focus and the launch of the new Sentry SIS app, which we are planning to roll out in November.

Sentry SIS is a crime reporting app where retailers and night time economy venues can share information with us and the police to gain a clear understanding of the type of crime that is being committed in the city centre and identify hot spots. This will enable us to match information to particular groups of criminals that are working together to target specific businesses. We will be offering training to all businesses so that you can familiarise yourselves with the new platform. Watch this space for more information and training dates.

The next quarterly BID meeting will be held on 11th January 2024 at 14.30.
