I've been drowning in work this week, and so I did what any normal person would do in the midst of looming deadlines, I Googled videos about procrastination. Because what better use of my time than to waste it? |
I did, however, find some invaluable knowledge for my fellow procrastinators. Did you know procrastination can help avoid burnout, boost creativity, help you prioritize, help make better decisions, and ironically, make you more productive? Don't ask me HOW the last part is true, I didn't procrastinate long enough to find out. Did I finish my work? No. I decided to write this newsletter instead. |

Weekly fun fact you didn't ask for |
She goes on to say, "You have no idea how much time, energy and attention you are wasting trying to control other people…how much energy you are burning through thinking about, worrying about, obsessing about what other people are doing what they're not doing, what they're feeling, all of which you have zero control over." The way she combats this is something called the “let them” theory, and the story she shared feels eerily familiar. It was her son's Junior prom and like most moms, she was completely obsessed with everything. All of a sudden it starts pouring rain out of nowhere and she panics thinking none of the kids have umbrellas or are prepared for this. She starts asking her son what their dinner plans are and he says he doesn't know. And she's like “WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW,” and starts getting all worked up. Her son then says they may go to a taco stand. Mel starts spiraling thinking these kids are dressed to the nines, it's hailing outside, they have no umbrellas, their outfits are going to get ruined…etc And then her daughter grabs her arm and says, “Let them. If they want to go to a taco stand in the pouring rain and ruin their dress, let them. It's their prom, not yours." And Mel said in that moment, she kept repeating to herself, “let them," and it immediately unhooked her. She said it's given her peace ever since. She goes on to share many other examples, and acknowledges the many exceptions to this. And as someone who is a bit of a control freak, I often try to force people (my poor family) to match my expectations. However, I've never quite thought of it in the way of actually losing control of myself. Not to mention all the energy and peace lost. So powerful. |

I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT THIS SHOW |
I don't know if I've ever screamed “OMG” more times in the middle of a show than I did with this. When it ended, I sat there paralyzed wondering what the hell I just watched. |
Naked Attraction, streaming on HBO MAX, is a show where men and women stand inside of a tube COMPLETELY naked, while the person looking for a partner examines each and every one of their body parts like cattle. They quite literally narrow their selections based on body parts before even hearing them speak. I first heard about this on the podcast We Can Do Hard Things where they described this show as body empowering. I'm truly baffled because it felt like an incredibly demeaning way to pick a partner. So awkward to watch. What am I missing? I NEED TO KNOW WHO ELSE HAS WATCHED THIS. And if you are now curious, please report back. |
