Final stretch.

It's the end of the semester or finals week for many of us. Stress levels are high and excitement for break is on the horizon. When I remember my school days, I loved finals week.

The schedule was usually a little different. Everybody is in “lockdown” mode. There's tons more people at the library - more general hustle and bustle about campus.

I had special spots for what I called “hardcore" studying. I sat in a single desk on the 4th floor of my college library, complete with a sunset view. I sat in a cubicle among the stacks on the 8th floor in grad school.

How do you tend to operate during finals week?

Food for thought:
  • Find your “special spot” for focused study sessions
    • HINT: not in your bed.
  • Craft a master to-do list
    • Create a “big picture” view and then break things down into smaller chunks and do one thing at a time.
  • Find some friends to study with
    • Even just going to the library with someone and “not talking while you work” can help you stay focused.
  • Keep up your self-care (!!)
    • Wellness routines are usually the first thing to go out the window, and now is the time you need it most. When you keep your body and mind functioning well, you're able to be more efficient with your tasks (READ: you do better work).
  • Celebrate your wins along the way
    • As you complete each project, each paper, and each test - do something special for yourself; you deserve it! Have a special coffee drink, watch your favorite show, take a nice hot shower - take a moment for yourself and say GOOD JOB!
Fun challenge! Log into our 365 space and post a pic of your favorite study spot. Tell us what you've been doing for self-care to keep yourself strong and focused.

I'll send you a $10 Starbucks gift card!

Offer stands for the first ten students who log in and share. When you share your experiences with fellow TRIO/McNair students, you make our community special.
