about

I have always loved the traditional Grandmother’s Garden quilts and used the hexagon flower as my inspiration for the Poppy block. Hexagons and y-seams can be challenging so I decided to cut them in half to make this block easier for the newer quilter.

block tips

When sewing the 60 degree angles, it helps to “jog” the edges by ¼” so that the edges match when pressed open. This takes some getting used to so give yourself some grace when sewing if this is a new technique for you. I also highly recommend starching your fabrics before you start since you are sewing and cutting along the bias.
