Hi First name / dear reader, January felt like such a long month to me and it seems ages since I last sent you an email (it was early December, actually). It was good to have a short break from writing the newsletter, but to be honest: I've plenty to share with you! Really exciting things, which I hope you will like. So, in the shortest month of the year, you will receive two newsletters from me. Because putting everything in one e-mail was getting a bit too much. Anyway, I hope you're well and enjoy this installment! In this newsletter: — ✨Art retreat✨ in the German Eifel 🌲 — What I've doing lately — 8 things I loved In the next one (will arrive in your inbox later this month): — My creative plans for the coming time — New travel journal (about Kent, UK) — Cleaned out my studio: shop sale coming |
|
I knew exactly what my ideal art retreat would be (see above). So, when Robin from Macherhaus emailed me last year if I wanted to give one in the German Eifel region, I didn't even have to think about it. We got to work and after a few months of planning and developing, we're ready! |

Good and affordable There are more art retreats out there, but many cost thousands of euros. For both Robin and me, it was important to be able to offer an affordable retreat, without compromising on the quality of the workshops and meals. I believe we managed to do just that! There are several single rooms and one double room, and the option to share a room with a friend so you get a discount. You share the two available bathrooms with the other participants ( photos of the house). Robin is the host, and he's a kind, enthusiastic person. He is there to help and prepare all the meals. I am so looking forward to it and hopefully I will see you there. If you join us, feel free to let me know by replying to this email. |

1) I started the new year in Kent (UK), where Bram and I also spent Christmas. 2) Talking about being a creative freelancer in the Mimi Creatives-podcast. 4) Interview with Chantal Valerie for her Substack. January was packed with interviews (about my book), so I was travelling many miles. They were in Dutch by the way, so I haven't linked them here. I've got 3 more interviews planned and then I'm done, and I can focus again on my work. I hope to wiggle in some time for personal work too! |

1) Read Looking at colorful art helps our brain improve its well-being. 2) Listen Listen to different forests and woods around the world. 3) Make My favourite art supplies shop Splendith has my favourite pan gouache on sale at a temporary discount. I use these Holbein Cake Colors most of all my materials (aff. link). Highly recommended! 4) Read Psychologists call 'creative humiliation' the loss of one's willingness to pursue a particular creative aspiration after a negative performance. How it occurs and how to get over it can be read here. 5) British crime drama Vera (series 13), The Moorside and Professor T. It took me a while to get the hang of the last one, but after that: liked it very much. 6) Watch The Great Pottery Throwdown has started its 7th series. I just love to watch wat creatives are able to make from a lump of clay. 7) Write A bit late to the party: I have been loving the PaperBlanks notebooks since December. I had been seeing them in shops for years, but felt they were a bit too busy. Until I saw these in the Virigina Woolf series ❤️ |
