The never-ending to-do list.

I love having a friend who happens to be the most amazing productivity coach, Dr. Kate. I met Kate on Instagram when I started following her journey exploring different habits as part of her blog, The Tending Year. She writes about one of her favorite productivity tools, the “Must Do Method."

Follow these steps:
  • Make your usual to-do list
  • Circle the items that must be completed TODAY
  • Transfer your “must-do” items to a separate list
  • Complete each item one at a time
  • Leave the rest for the following day
This technique invites what I like to call ruthless prioritization. We all have never-ending to-do lists. We could be doing stuff all day long. The key here is figuring out what's most important. It might feel like everything is important, but that's a sure way to drive yourself crazy.

The more you can slim down your to-do list and really figure out your top priorities, the more time you will have for YOU. That's right. Once you complete the items on your MUST-DO list, you can breathe. Give yourself a break. Do something for yourself that will contribute to your foundation of well-being.

Do nothing.

Or, go back to your list and pick another item to get done. Reward yourself for completing a BONUS ITEM.

Try this method out and see what you think! The more you experiment with different techniques, the more you'll discover what works for you. You'll also get better at determining how long things tend to take. One of the biggest challenges of time management is GETTING REALISTIC on the time required for each item on your to-do list.

Once you discover your flow, you'll be able to dial things in.

Log into our 365 space and share your thoughts. One of the best things about trying new tools, techniques, and habits is sharing your findings with others - especially fellow TRIO/McNair scholars who you know could benefit from your insight and wisdom. Pass it along! ✨
