Things have been a little busy at my house this week, First name / friend. A beagle puppy has joined our family!
You may remember from Issue 006 of The Leaflet that my husband and I took care of a beagle named Bogey for a couple days back in October. Our new puppy is Bogey's littermate. It's been an adjustment to have a pet in our home again, but we're enjoying it!
We haven't come up with a name for him yet. If you have any suggestions, please reply to this email and send them my way!
I've discovered that it's difficult to capture a non-blurry image of an awake beagle.
👇 Featured Tool: PerfectIt 👇
I've been using PerfectIt in my proofreading work for a few years now, but here's how it helped me recently:
My client wrote both “bandanna” and “bandana” in a 215-page transcript, but because the file was so lengthy and neither spelling is an error, I didn't notice that the word was written inconsistently throughout. Grammarly and Microsoft Word Editor (two tools I use after proofreading files) didn't flag the inconsistency because Merriam-Webster says that both versions are acceptable.
PerfectIt to the rescue! This tool flagged the inconsistency, and I suggested that my client write the word the same way throughout the file (see the screenshot below).
I'm not an affiliate for PerfectIt, but I wanted to mention this tool in case you're not already familiar with it. The software currently costs $99 per year, but there's a 14-day free trial so you can experiment with it. My favorite feature is the consistency checks.
Catch of the Week:
"Through the wringer" means going through a tough or challenging experience, similar to clothes being tightly squeezed in a wringer washing machine.
