RESEARCH DIGEST #3: MARCH 2024
SAVE THE DATE:
PHASE 1 RESEARCH RELEASE EVENT

what we've done
Initiated & Completed Interviews
In February and early March we hosted 31 one-on-one interviews and 8 focus groups gathering 60+ individuals. Interviewees included a set of disparate national and international arts service organization leaders. Focus groups included 7-10 participants each, featuring arts workers, artists, and funders working within and in relation to ASO’s across the country. These interviews and focus groups provided important insights that illustrate the history and current landscape of ASOs. They also surfaced key issues that we are considering for further exploration in subsequent phases of research.

Participants were selected from a long list of possibilities developed from self-nominations received via our interest form. In addition, members of the ASO Advisory Cohort identified individuals to ensure a broad set of organizations and experiences are represented. All interview and focus group participants were compensated for their time.

We are grateful for everyone that took the time to speak with us and provided additional resources to connect with as we continue the research process.
Monthly Meetings with ASO Advisory Cohort
In late-January the ASO Advisory Cohort met to finalize the Interview and Focus Group participant lists and discuss the research process and the values informing this work. In February, the group convened to discuss the research’s subject typology and discuss the study’s potential universe.

what's next?
As we approach the closing of Phase One of this study, we are working in collaboration with the ASO Advisory Cohort to finalize:
  • ASO Definition
  • Subject Typology
  • Study Universe
  • Research methodology for Phase Two
  • Write report for Phase 1 Findings
We are also  working with data analyst, Leonardo Figueiredo, from Rila Group, to develop a new open data resource to share our learnings and work on ASOs. These data will be useful to ASOs as well as their networks and beneficiaries.
