I haven't been working on much other than Topsieturvy which is launching as part of the bundle. She comes in 4 sizes and includes a fun quilting plan. I've quilted her with a mixture of big stitch hand quilting and I've tied the block intersections with 100% wool ties, so with washing over time they'll turn into little balls of wool. There's a blog post with more information about Topsieturvy, click the button below to read it.

Since I'm in the thick of hand quilting Topsieturvy I'm sharing some tips around how I do this.

I don't use a hoop. I use the weight of the quilt as I quilt it in my lap. I have been using a long embroidery #9 needle with a short stab running stitch (you need a stab to make sure you catch all layers of the quilt sandwich).  I have been learning to do the rocking stitch with a much shorter needle. Why rock… less fatigue on your hands and a shorter stitch can be achieved. HOWEVER. You do you, experiment and see what works for you. There is no wrong in your quilt if you are happy with your results.

Another thing I want to touch on is threads. Don't be afraid to experiment. For Topsieturvy I've used a mix of solid and variegated Wondferfil Perle #8 Eleganza as well as some Dazzle (the sparkly silver, pink and yellow below). The Dazzle 8WT is similar in weight to #8 Perle, it does feel thicker in the needle and it is 100% rayon, I'm using it as an accent for Topsieturvy (see photo below). I've also used a 100% wool yarn (don't use a superwash yarn if you want the yarn to felt over time with washing of the quilt) to tie the intersections where the blocks meet and the wool will turn into balls over time with washing. I love the effect!
