Hello First name / friend,

Happy Thursday!  I hope your having a great week!  Leaves have popped here in southern Minnesota and everything is sooo green.  It's been so nice out and I'm loving it.
I finished up my scrap stash Star Fall baby quilt this past week.  I'm trying to stay on top of all of the quilts I've been making so I quilted it up right away.

I did the multi stitch zig zag on this one.  I'm kind of obsessed with it again.  I really love the texture it makes.  This is stitch 6 on my Janome MC6700p.  I did a stitch length of 4.0 and a width of 7.

My long arm friends have switched me over to a bigger stitch length.  I used to quilt everything with a 3.0 but they suggested a 4.0 which is a lot faster and uses a lot less thread.
This one was made completely from my stash.  The fabrics are mostly from my scrap bins.  I found a smaller piece of gingham in my stash for the backing.  Even the batting is leftovers from other quilts that I pieced together.

That was a fun little scrappy quilt to sew up.  I have this tendency to want to make huge quilts so it's nice and always surprisingly fast to make a baby quilt..lol.

I also quilted up my Southwest Sunshine quilt while my machine was out on the dining room table.  (Who am I kidding… it's there all the time).  And  again with the multi stitch zig zag.

There was about a year or two that I hardly quilted anything myself so I'm enjoying doing some of my own quilts again.

Sheets as quilt backings
How do we feel about using sheets as quilt backings??!  I personally really love using them so long as they are 100% cotton and a decent quality.

I try to keep a lot of neutral fabric options on hand for quilt backings and I'm running a little low right now.  Nicole of Modern Handcraft mentioned these sheets from Target the other day and I was able to go take a look this week.

They have some really fun options right now!  A lot of quilters are hesitant to use sheets because they are afraid they will pill.  And honestly, that probably could happen with some sheets.

I used a sheet on this cute little fox quilt for my son many many years ago and it's held up so nicely.  I'm still kicking myself for not stocking up on these sheet sets because I love the pattern and it's held up perfectly.  Plus it's super soft and drapey.  It's definitely a Target sheet set, probably Threshold…?  But like everything, who knows if the quality is the same today as it was 6+ years ago.

If you are nervous about using sheets, maybe don't try them for the first time on a super special quilt.

So far, I've had good luck using sheets but I'm definitely willing to experiment since I make quite a few quilts.

I love the cost savings of using them.  This time I mostly picked up twin sizes which will work for bigger throws.  I'll use the fitted sheet on smaller throws.

FEATURED QUILT PATTERN
Quilty Stars

Keeping with the theme of scrap stash quilts…. this week Quilty Stars is the featured quilt pattern.  I'm going to try to work in that stack of completed quilts I shared a few weeks ago. I figure the weekly featured quilts are good excuse to photograph, blog and share that stack.

I sewed up this scrappy quilt last summer so this week is a good excuse to get it on the blog and put away.  I used low volume scraps for the background.  The pattern includes cutting instructions for both a scrappy or a solid background.

I made these cute little solids baby versions back when the pattern came out.

And some colorful blocks.  This one would be fun to do each star a different color and arrange it in rainbow order.
