Dear Community,
It is with great reverence that I greet you on the last day of our 9-day Pluto Vigil. I want to thank you for walking Pluto across the threshold into Aquarius with me and my collaborators Rose Blakelock, Jonathan Koe, Arizona Smith, Maya Netzer, and Kate Belew.
In this short time, Pluto has taught me so much, moved me to great depths, and given me more intimacy with fear and death, and this in turn has shown me how to understand the lucidity of aliveness.
I wrote an entirely different version of today's transmission.
Pluto kept trying to tell me not go the route I had in mind.
But it took me a while to listen.
That's the thing. Pluto isn't a planet you connect with in your mind.
When I reached out to my peers and asked them to contribute a piece to the Pluto Vigil, I kept my direction very open, because I trusted each of them to bring through what was meant to come to all of you.
But as I look back, I notice the shared instincts of each writer to go towards the language of our ancient psyche: the myths, the poetry, the vaults of memory, the mines of personal loss, the tradition of pen-to-paper correspondence, the symbol of cauldrons, the tendency to petition to celestial, and the knowing of the body which contains and is the vehicle for all of the above.
Pluto does not ask us for meticulous research; Instead, it prefers whatever vehicle helps us confront questions with no answers, proclamations of surrender, and appeals to the power of Pluto. It asks us to come as close as we can to the part of us that has the power to create and destroy without destroying ourselves in the process.
So today, instead of the piece I wrote initially, I want to share with you the visceral lessons I received during this Vigil.
Pluto's Visceral Lessons
by Xenia Marie Ross Viray
We can't command our energy until we face our fear. For some, commanding feels natural. To those who are here to serve the tender-hearted whole, commanding anything may feel antithetical to our nature. But Pluto asks us to feel this power, so we can learn to trust ourselves with it and wield it actively.
Transformation needs support. Some things that support transformation are memorializing what's been lost, being clear about our locus of power, and giving permission to ourselves to remember that death and birth are two sides of the same coin.
It is empowering to remember that control is mostly an illusion, and that bracing against life because we fear losing control can create unnecessary pain.
Fear is part of the experience of being mortal, another part of incarnation that our soul learns from. Is it possible that part of the reason we have a body is to access feelings and emotions that we cannot access in spirit? That being incarnate gives us the privilege of feeling, learning from, transmuting, and transforming fear into something else.
Disrespect of fear and fear of fear prevent us from learning what it’s trying to teach us.
The Ancient And Visceral Sensibility of Pluto
with Xenia Viray
From these five things Pluto gifted me, I created these practices for myself and now I am sharing them with you.
What does it feel like to command your energy? Command your cells to release what isn't yours. Command your psyche to come into the present moment. What does it feel like to connect to the power inside the atoms of your body? Use this recording I created to help you tap into the feeling of your own power.
Memorialize what's been lost for you personally and what we have lost collectively since 2008. Name the things that were clarified and came to light and transformed in the process of being unearthed. Let the altar be a place for all that occurred to be honored.
When you are alone, perhaps in the bath or the woods, invite yourself to experience losing control. Release any control of the muscles of your face, and let whatever guttural sounds want to arise come out. Notice what happens when you let the energy of what has been repressed, unheard, feared, judged, or cast aside make its own sounds. Let other parts of your body move inspired by these sounds. Notice the feeling of power once locked away being set free.
Next time you feel fear or are facing the fact of being mortal, ask yourself what fear is here to teach you instead of pushing it away or creating a story. How does the answer feel in your body? How does that feeling connect to your power?** (This applies when you are not in any actual physical danger.)
Do one or all of these today as your last Pluto Ritual.
Closing the Vigil
Sit at your altar, light your candle(s), and thank Pluto in Capricorn for all it has transformed.
As you light another candle, say your intention for Pluto as it moves into Aquarius aloud. Send support to Pluto on its new journey, where it will transform what it means to be a citizen of humanity, to wield the power of technology, to steward the future, and be a rebel. Ask that the shadows shown to us by Pluto be seen in the light of compassion.
As we close our nine-day Vigil, offer Pluto a token of your gratitude, perhaps you burn a fallen leaf in honor of nature's ability to renew itself.
Thank the guides, the land, the ancestors, the community, and all who supported and held you as you watched over Pluto.
Imagine releasing all you have called in for your Pluto Vigil altar, closing this portal, and trusting that the work of the vigil is done. If you are called, end your ritual by saying And it is so.
Thank you for joining us for the Pluto Vigil. We will keep the Vigil Slack group open for two more weeks. *If you want to check out the other piece I wrote about the Sabian symbols, that lives here, and will soon land in your inbox. The archive will remain up through the end of the year if you'd like to revisit it.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
