Hello First name / friend,

Happy Thursday!  I hope your week is going well.  After a long weekend and a late start to school (because of negative temps..ugh) I'm back in the sewing room this week with airpods in and my sewing machine humming along.

It truly is my hibernation season and quilting makes it so much more enjoyable.  I'm still trying to get out for daily walks as much as I can.  The cold temps and our sporadic school days have made that a little more challenging but it does feel good to get even 20-30 minutes of fresh (cold) air several times a week.

This week I'm sewing all the heart quilts still!  I finished up the Heart Gems I started last week!  Or the quilt top that is.

I'll probably quilt this one up myself. I'm somewhat tempted to hand quilt it because I'm almost done with my current hand quilting project.  Buuuuut…. I have another wovens quilt planned for very soon that I know I want to hand quilt.

I paired these Queen of Hearts wovens with Sprout Wovens in Midnight and I have to say I like it.  Like way more than I thought I would.    This is the simple heart bonus option in the pattern.

The wovens quilt I plan to hand quilt will be one that uses these new Wildflower Wovens by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics.  I'm pretty excited to cut into these.  They should be in quilt shops within the next few weeks.

THE LATEST STRING QUILT
I finished up my blue string quilt a few weeks ago!  I still need to get it up on the blog but I wanted to share it here.  I didn't have the best day to photograph it so I'll just leave you with a couple of photos for now.

This was my early December project.  It was such an enjoyable one.  It's the third string quilt I've made and I'm sure it won't be the last.  Here are the other two.

Here's some details about this one:
  • Blocks are 6 inch finished (I went kind of small on these because I didn't know if I would have enough string scraps in blue and planned on raiding my regular blue scrap bin.)
  • Strips are all random except that linen center strip.  That is a 1.25" strip.
  • 10x12 layout = 120 blocks
  • 60" x 72"

FEATURED QUILT PATTERN
This week we will continue with the hearts for the featured pattern.  This week it's a personal fave of mine… Scrappy Hearts!

I sewed up this pinky-purple version last year.

Scrappy Hearts is a favorite because it's super scrap friendly.  It uses 3.5 inch and some 4 inch squares which most of us will have in our scraps.

There are also two background options included in the pattern!  One is a scrappy background like this one below.  So again, you can head to your low volume scraps and cut all of the background squares.

Or you can stick with a solid background and use some yardage like this one below.

And you can always use fat quarters too.  This throw size requires 14 fat quarters for the hearts.

Plus these heart blocks are nice and big and really satisfying to sew up.

This one includes 3 sizes:  Baby, throw and twin.
