"Now is the time for investment in sustainable, climate-resilient agriculture that builds strong farms and rural communities. We also must work to create racial equity across agriculture; prioritize communities over corporations, and ensure everyone has access to food that is good for their health and the health of our soil and water." Thank you for attending our discussion on the Farm Bill. We covered a lot! Notably, connecting the dots between the lack of farmland access in Wisconsin to Bridgeport. Although circumstances differ, the barriers are interconnected. We were reminded how important it is to organize, mobilize and advocate on a state level. Thank you again to Samantha Cave and Reggy Saint Fortcolin! We appreciate our Connecticut colleagues for contributing their insights: Maraiah Popeleski Mansfield School District Food Service Director, Seanice Austin Fresh New London, Sarah Lopez Senator Murphy’s Office-4th Congressional District Outreach, Christine Dzujna Legal Services Specialist at Farm-To-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. The unprecedented federal investment in a regionalized, equitable and resilient food system by the USDA over the last four years is now uncertain. Vital funding for: SNAP, WIC, school meals, regional processing infrastructure, climate resilient agriculture, local procurement could be impacted in serious ways. We are grateful for this alliance, designed to keep each other informed and connected. |
