Think like an artist. Design like a founder.

AN EMAIL ABOUT EMAIL
What's the worst that could happen?

It must be some kind of evolutionary survival-of-the-fittest thing—why humans are so much better at giving advice than actually taking their own. Probably biology preserving the herd.

Same in my life. I’ve built an entire career helping people tell their stories, and make their big ideas real, that's how I earned the nickname “Brand Whisperer”.

And yet, for years, my own email list sat there like an unwatered houseplant. Shriveled and neglected. (P.S. these things help!)

It's no secret that email is the best marketing tool. (Higher ROI than social media. Way less questioning the algorithm abyss..)

And yet—I avoided it. Let’s just say, my kitchen is never been cleaner than when I need to sit down and write an email.

Why?

Because I thought writing emails meant being brilliant. Having something important to say. Showing up like a polished, TED-talking authority instead of, you know, a human person.

So I did the only thing that’s ever worked for me when I’m scared of something: I just did it. And when I survived, I did it again. And again. Until I tricked myself into liking it.

I stopped treating my newsletter like a marketing task and started treating it like a playground. A place to experiment. Be messy. Try things. Just play. Something I get to do.

And suddenly, I actually wanted to do it.

The Magic of Just Showing Up

📬 People started replying. Turns out, when you email people, they email you back. (Wild, I know.) Some resonated with what I shared. Some just said hi. Either way, it just goes to show business is about connection, not perfection. (BTW I really love hearing from you! Thank you for all the wonderful notes.)

🧠 My brain woke up. I’ve always journaled, but writing to you is different. It makes me think clearer. Observe more. It’s a creative muscle I forgot I had—and now, I get to use it every week.

🔎 I became a creative detective of my own life. Now, I go through my week look for it, Where’s the hook? What tiny, ridiculous moment—like selling my prized JNCO jeans at a yard sale—could be turned into something relatable and hopefully helpful.

🎯 Clients have started showing up—effortlessly. I didn’t change anything. I've never run ads. My Instagram is basically baby TV these days. But suddenly, I am getting more discovery calls, more Genius Zone bookings, more aligned clients. People who get it before I have to explain it.

Which brings me to this week.

This week was really busy, and I was about to let myself off the hook. I had no hook. No clever story. Just me, staring at a Google doc with 40 minutes on the clock.

And then I thought: Just write.

So here it is. An email about writing an email. Voila. ✨🤯

And proof of my whole point: You don’t need a perfect idea to start. You just need to start.

So—what’s something in your business you keep avoiding?

How can you turn it into a playground instead of a chore?

Anything can become your favorite thing if you stop trying to get it “right” and just let yourself play.

P.S. If you’ve been avoiding your email list (or something else in your business) and need a pep talk, hit reply. I promise I won’t tell you to “just be consistent” or “batch your content.” We’ll find the fun and hopefully the art in it.
