In the Sangha, you can feel the collective energy supporting your practice. You can feel the Sangha carrying you like a strong hand holding a fragile leaf. ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

A Year In Review
Summer 2025

On a summer Sunday morning one year ago, the RIM Community received the very first edition of Voices. With the joy of Beginner’s Mind, we stepped into the possibilities of this new, creative, and community-driven magazine.  Read our inaugural edition Editors' Notes

Now, four editions in, we pause with gratitude—for our many contributors, for you, our readers, and for the shared reflections that have shaped Voices along the way.

We also recognize how challenging it can be to keep up with the steady stream of emails filling our inboxes daily. That’s why we’re offering a Year in Review Edition this season—a gentle invitation to revisit or explore past editions for the first time. Each issue remains a heartfelt reflection of our community’s voice and spirit, and we’ve gathered them in one place to make it easier for you to engage whenever the time feels right.

We’d love to hear from you as we consider the path ahead. Has an article or artistic expression touched your practice? Has the format supported or challenged your reading experience? Whether pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral, all reflections are welcome. Your insights are truly valuable as we envision the future of Voices together.

Please consider contributing your writings, artwork, and experiences to help us all cultivate a vibrant and inclusive community magazine. Your voice is important, and we want to hear your unique ways of living the Dharma. With curiosity and openness, let's explore our practice together and share the unique ways we live the Dharma.

Sharing Our Stories
“When we offer our lived insights to the sangha, our individual experience becomes collective nourishment—the dharma expressing itself not only through teachings, but through the genuine particularities of how we've actually walked the path. This sharing becomes a profound act of generosity, creating a beautiful container where one person's insights become medicine for another's struggle, reminding us that wisdom can be offered through the everyday truths of our shared experiences.”
~ Jesse Foy, RIM's Founder and Guiding Teacher
The Voices Team wants to share your stories of change, especially the ones that led you to mindful living and our community. Most change has a catalyst. Life may force us to change. Sometimes we are inspired to change, and at other times we are challenged to change. We sense some underlying dissatisfaction and turn toward something new. It is that moment of turning toward mindfulness that we invite you to share with us.
  1. Describe the catalyst that forced, inspired, or challenged you to seek a new way of being.
  2. Describe the element of the Dharma that resonated deeply enough to spark change.
  3. Describe the impact that an element of the Dharma has on your life.
Learn how you can share your story and contribute in other ways to VOICES. Send us an email.  We would love to hear from you!

Voices Past Editions

The very first edition of Voices warmly embraces the idea of Beginner’s Mind and how it applies to our practice, our volunteer efforts at RIM, our artistic expressions, and our work off the cushion.

2nd Edition - Fall 2024 Nature is Elemental
The Fall 2024 issue explores how the natural world, through its elements of fire, earth, air, and water, can teach us about the joy of awakening to impermanence and transformation.

In the January 2025 offering, we honor many RIM friends who walk alongside others on life's journey, sharing their unique ways of fostering wellbeing and spreading joy. As Jesse Foy beautifully reminds us in a Thanksgiving message, "In their happiness… we find our own."

4th Edition - Spring 2025 Renewal
Voices Spring 2025 reveals how our Sangha embodies intentions to discern the true nature of our calling — to live mindfully and recognize that growth and change fuel our paths. We recognize Earth Day and include stories about how nature itself serves as a call to renewal.

Reader Voices
Your voice helps shape a living conversation—one that builds connection, encourages dialogue, and strengthens our shared community. For each edition, we invite you—our readers—to share what moved you, challenged you, or stayed with you. Here are a few kind remarks from RIM Voices readers.
So beautiful and enriching. I love knowing the extraordinary souls in our Sangha more deeply. I am inspired!
~ Kerry

I know I love RIM and our sangha... and this magazine brings that joy, love, and admiration of our members to a new level.
~ Wendy

Voices is a great way to keep our community connected and informed.
~ Chawki

I thoroughly enjoyed the pace and clarity contained in every article, and enjoyed learning more about each member's story. There is added depth and texture to each individual, which only helps me deepen my love and admiration for them.
~ Silvia

I was brought to tears more than once while reading Voices this morning. There is such immense goodness that is happening within and around our community because of the RIM sangha.
~ Amy

Truly beautiful!! The spirit of intent flows throughout the magazine both visually and in the written word. The varied voices of each contributor provide the reader with insight into their practice and their journey. It does not read like a choppy mix from different authors, but rather a unified voice…with each contribution building on the previous share.
~ Mary Jo

The magazine is like a tapestry. Every article and entry lends itself to the whole.  Little threads carefully weaved into the next. One thread does not compete with or overshadow the next. It is a peaceful read. ~ Nancy Lee

It was very interesting to learn more about the members of our Sangha and their practice as well as that of our teachers.
~ Vicki
