The Root Co. has a fantastic retail store. Not only highlighting the history of A.I. Root and honey bees and ultimately the start of Bee Culture magazine but everything you can think of for wonderful gifts for yourself, family, friends and just for fun.
In the store we have an Observation Hive so shoppers can see what honey bees look like and what they do along with comb they have built and their flight in and out of an entrance/exit to the outside. It is a 'go to' location in the store. We take the hive out in late Fall and reinstall it in Spring. We just did the re-assembly of the Observation Hive and reinstalled it in the store.
It's not a hard job but being sure everything is aligned and safe to bring into the store is a concerning goal. We don't want to have an oops moment and fill the store with honey bees and get on the local 6 o'clock news. We only had one OMGosh event. There is a plastic tube that fits into the Observation Hive then out through a hole in the window frame it is placed in front of. From the time we removed the Observation Hive in late Fall until we went to re-install the Observation Hive the tube disappeared....ugh. The picture below of Jason, from Maintenance, and myself shows that this couldn't have been fixed without Jason and him making a new tube with perfect end fittings made on a lathe.
So now when you come and visit us here in Medina and visit the Store to look at the Observation Hive you know the back story. 🙂
