The Pursuit for Educational Excellence Is Never Over |
|
I am sitting here reflecting on remarks I will give in honor of an educational award that bears the name of Vivian C. Mason. So, I turn to Mrs. Mason herself—an educator and activist whose work unfolded in a time when “separate but equal” was the law of the land, and separate was anything but equal.Yet she helped build thriving communities rooted in dignity, resilience, and the unshakable belief that education was liberation. As I look ahead to October 26th, RIISE 16th Fall Boutique Recruitment Salon with families and independent schools, I can’t help but see the throughline. Mrs. Mason’s era reminds us that equity was never given freely—it was demanded, built, and protected by communities who knew education was their birthright. |

Progress isn’t permanent—we power it. Stay vigilant, stay connected, and remind your scholars who and whose they are. Our charge, like Mrs. Mason's, is to remain engaged and unrelenting in pursuit of an educational landscape where all scholars are seen, valued, and prepared to flourish. The times we find ourselves in are not so different from the ones Vivian C. Mason faced. Her legacy is not just in her activism or in the award that bears her name—it is in the charge she leaves us: to stand firm, to teach with courage, and to build communities that thrive, even when the world insists otherwise. |
