Sharing from a saint who migrated to France
Lille
I recently moved to Lille, France, from the United States. I never thought that I would have a chance to be a part of the Lord’s move to raise up churches in a different country.
In October 2024 I came to Lille thinking I would be just visiting saints. The plans were made before the Olympic distributions had taken place. What I experienced was a different type of vacation. I was immediately thrust into home meetings with so many new ones. We had so much enjoyment! All that we read together, although I’d read it before, and all that we sang together, although I had sung it before, was so fresh, new, and living!
After this initial visit, I returned to the US with the desire to visit again. So, in the following spring I came with a sister on a “shepherding trip” to Lille, and we had such fresh enjoyment, the same fresh enjoyment that we had tasted on the 2024 gospel trip! The saints were written on our hearts. Out of that time there arose the sense within me to apply for a long-stay visa and live in Lille.
Just as the Lord moved by moving within the saints to migrate to Russia, we all had reasons to stay where we were and enjoy a wonderful church life. None of us were (or are) qualified to move to another country and be a part of raising up lampstands. We never felt qualified to migrate to Russia, but then a brother shared how we need to heed the Lord’s speaking. Some hear the word, and it speaks to them, but it doesn’t form roots and grow. He shared how the word concerning Russia would remain in us and would bother us until we heeded His speaking. So, it wasn’t our qualifications; it was the Lord’s speaking that caused us to migrate.
The thought of moving to Lille came out of the enjoyment with the dear ones here and a sense from the Lord. I feel that I am not qualified, but I had to heed the sense. And my circumstances allowed me to be able to apply for a long-term visa, and the Lord to open the way practically.
It’s not easy to live in a foreign country, especially when you don’t speak the language. It’s also difficult to drop your culture and not bring your church life culture with you. But the Lord is able to overcome in us and in the environment. I praise and thank the Lord for allowing me this opportunity.
