Then life would happen. 🫠 Like getting cancer, closing down my team, and my husband needing 7 surgeries in one year.
Or sometimes it was just the way of the trade; a deal would fall through, a client would ghost, or I’d get busy with appointments and suddenly the “goal” was collecting dust on a spreadsheet.
Sound familiar?
One year after reading
Traction by Gino Wickman, I decided to do something different.
Instead of chasing a goal, I built a system around it.
Here’s what it looked like:
🎯 Goal: Close 24 transactions this year
🔁 Habit: 5 conversations per day
🔔 Trigger: After my mid-morning diet coke
📊 Tracking: A simple check mark on my calendar
No overthinking. No waiting to “feel motivated.” Just reps.
And here’s what happened. I hit the goal, but more importantly, I didn’t have to start over the next year. The habit stayed. The system ran itself.
That’s the part nobody tells you.
You don’t fail goals. You fail the habits required to achieve them.
If you’re tired of the rollercoaster of big goals followed by burnout, build the system that guarantees success instead of hoping for it.
