For me, the December Solstice has always been the most important of the solstices and equinoxes. It is without question my favorite astronomical calendric season. I have written and spoken on this numerous times, and here is a link to an oldie-but-goodie Winter Solstice article from many years ago. The reason I am delving into this topic again is due to the astounding number of astronomical and astrological events converging on this “Southstice” – a term suggested by our colleague Gemini Brett, because the December Solstice has an extreme South declination. After unpacking all this, some speculation on the journey of the Soul is in order, whether in birthing or deathing. |

The Sagittarius New Moon is exact December 19 at 8:43pm ET/ 5:43pm PT at 28°24’. This moon features what appears to be a clear set of instructions and yet this moon is so outside of the ‘middle world’, featuring potent celestial and underworld themes, that it is more likely it will only make sense in retrospect. This moon, and the coming Solstice point the following day, require deep trust and surrender to the Great Mystery-ing unfolding. I refer to ‘Great Mystery’ here, as a verb. It was pointed out to me in recent years by a dear elder friend connected to the Lakota Sun Dance, that this is indeed what it is and always was; constantly in motion, mystery-ing, becoming. |
