New here? I’m Carmen McCullough, a curious creator andĀ proven promoterĀ ofĀ artsy projectsĀ that take usĀ off the beaten path. This is my monthly update where I share about my artsy projects hoping you'll be inspired to do the same. Thank you for following along!

New Artwork
I spent a little extra time in the art studio over the holidays and am excited to share what I made for you! šŸ–Œļø

Still Standing - There’s a lot of ā€œhiddenā€ imagery in this one. I might need a therapist to figure it all out. šŸ˜…

Four Elements - Progress Report
Thank you for sharing your opinions last month. In that update, I asked for your input on a color palette for my next Four Elements series. When it came down to vivid colors versus a more neutral approach, the neutral palette won.Ā
Ā
With that decision made, I’ve ordered wood substrates for the backgrounds and balsa wood for the element symbols. While I wait for those to arrive, I’m gathering assorted items that may (or may not) find their way into the final artwork. If you’re new here, my four elements are earth, air, fire, and water, and I am hoping to have the set completed by next month’s update. šŸ”„šŸ’¦šŸŖ¶šŸŒæ

Cookbook of Gravestone Recipes
Have you ever thought about what you might want inscribed on your gravestone?Ā How about your favorite recipe? Check out Rosie Grant who has spent the past four years locating gravestone recipes, speaking with the decedents' families, making each recipe, and then bringing the finished dish back to its owner’s final resting place to enjoy the food next to them. 🪦

PetrichorĀ
Did you know that the pleasant earthy smell after it rains is called Petrichor? Humans are sensitive to petrichorĀ because it signals the presence of fresh water and fertile soil. Both were important for the survival of our ancestors. Those of us in the northern climates will be patiently waiting for the sound and smell of rainfall to return in the spring. šŸ’¦

The House on the Rock
Inspiration often lives in the strange and unapologetically original. This is what you’ll find at the House on the Rock in Wisconsin. Built on a dramatic rock outcrop, it features a series of immersive spaces filled with curious displays, an elaborate carousel, and an Infinity Room. If you’ve been there, please reply back and let me know what you thought of it! 🪨

Are you working on a fun project (artsy or otherwise)?
I'd love to hear about it and include it in a future update.Ā
