Happy Fridayyyyyy.
With school ending, my kids were home this week. I didn't realize they were facetiming their friends while I was quite literally losing my sh*t in the kitchen. “WOULD YOU JUST DIE ALREADY?!” I kept screaming. “JESUS CHRIST JUST DIE! DIE. MY GOD YOU'RE LIKE OBSESSED WITH ME.” I turn around with my arms flailing and I see my son's horrified face staring right at me with his friend on camera.

“There's a house fly," I said as I quickly composed myself. My son, still horrified and slightly annoyed, looks me dead in the eye and walks away. Not my finest moment.

And look, I'm not trying to bag on summer, but I never see flies in my house during fall (the superior season).
Weekly fun fact you didn't ask for

Such a good podcast
Dr. Pelz was on the podcast The Diary of a CEO, and it was one of the most fascinating episodes about health I've listened to in awhile. Some rough notes below..

I had no idea there were 6 different types of fasting, and how much it helped with things like mental clarity, testosterone levels, decreasing joint inflammation, and pushing infections out. One of the greatest studies done on fasting was during Covid, and it showed that if the virus came during a fasting state, it couldn't replicate (vs. a cell laden in glucose).

They discussed wild things we learned growing up, like the common phrase: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Did you know that Kellogg's Corn Flakes had a commercial that started that to encourage people to eat Corn Flakes for breakfast? There was never any science behind that statement. Dr. Pelz discusses eating when hungry vs. societal norms (set times for breakfast, lunch and dinner). She said the absolute worst time to eat is a couple hours before bed or right when you wake up because your melatonin is high. When your melatonin is high, it shuts off production of insulin from the pancreas.

The conversation around women's menstrual cycles was so informative. (psst, pass this on to the men in your lives) Apparently there are times during our cycle when we are most creative, most irritable..etc And many women plan their business calendar around their menstrual cycles and have noticed their productivity increase. Spain recently passed legislation giving women the right to 3 days of menstrual leave a month, with the option of extending it to 5 days.

She discussed menopause, and how little so many of us know about it. And because of it, the most common age for a woman to commit suicide is between the ages of 45 and 55. How wild is that? It was also interesting learning about how things change post menopause--like libido going up, and managing stress better.

She discussed the damage of diet pills like Ozempic and how they eliminate muscle, the organ we need most for longevity.

The episode is a little over 2 hours and rich with information I barely touched the surface here. From stress levels in men and women, to the strong affects of sugar on our bodies, to the interesting underarm test, it is definitely worth a listen.

This is powerful
