I went to the doctor's office again this week, and as I sat there on that grey plastic chair, I had quite the epiphany. Why don't medical facilities offer a reward system like an airline's frequent flyer miles? Hear me out..
I say we create a point system. Each visit can be a point. Blood test? Points! Urgent care? Points! Follow-up visit? Points! And after a certain amount of points, you get priority status. Just like Southwest Airlines' A-list members, I'd get a special badge that allowed me to cut in front of the line. Because hey, if I'm going to be coughing up a lung with a 103 fever, I should at least get to feel like a celebrity for 4.5 seconds.
*walks into urgent care, struts to the front*
MOVE OVER GRANDMA, I'M VIP.
Front desk girl giving me the eye roll? I slowly pull out my badge and show her who's boss. Roll up to get my blood drawn? SPECIAL BANDAIDS. Going in for a check-up? SPECIAL PATIENT GOWN. Going to the hospital? PULL OUT THAT RED CARPET BABY, OUR A-LIST SICKIE IS HERE.
*snaps back into reality*
Listen, I just think it's a brilliant idea. Someone please make this happen.
Weekly fun fact you didn't ask for
Yes, you read that right. Happy suing!
OMG this poop and gut episode
Listened to a poop and gut scientist on The Diary of a CEO this week. I took so many notes, it's impossible to share them all. Really interesting honestly if you have the time, I highly recommend listening. Linking it here.
I had no idea 70% of your immune system is in the gut, and the walls of your intestine are the home of your immune system. It's the most vulnerable part of your body (more than your skin!). Also, equally interesting, every 3-4 days you completely transform and recreate your gut barrier. Meaning, even a slight change of food can cause you to see a shift in just 24 hours. Sounds very promising for your fellow sickie (ME).
Another fun fact for ya, 95% of the serotonin (happy hormone) in your body is produced by the gut. What's weird is when we treat someone with depression, we treat them to increase serotonin levels, yet only 5% of the serotonin in your body is produced in your brain. He also shared science around childhood trauma and stress manifesting in the gut.
He went over the different types of poop, what to look for, and the time frame that your food should go through your body (there's an easy blue dye test you can do at home). Also, shout out to fiber being “the most healing nutrient in all of nature”, and the most anti-inflammatory molecule that he's ever come across. *stocks up on beans*
One of the most intriguing parts of the episode was when he discussed the current studies of poop transfers and how you can transfer human conditions, moods, and metabolism. He discussed the affects of your gut on your libido, and how to help your kids (and yourself) focus better. I wish I could summarize it all here, but if you have 2 hours on your drive home, or while you're doing housework, definitely listen.

Stumbled upon the account @disappointingaffirmations and I had to share. Like the name implies, it's all "disappointing affirmations" and it's brilliant.
