Ciao!
By now you should know that I like to use this space to be informative about Italy specific topics.
But we haven't yet discussed the mysterious porcelain fixture in Italian bathrooms that sits conveniently next to the toilet and has confused American travelers forever. It feels foreign and intimidating, but it's actually brilliant, hygienic and will make you feel very Italian once you master it. THE BIDET.
Here's what you do:
Step 1: Use the toilet first. Some people use toilet paper, some don't.
Step 2: Move to the bidet, conveniently right next to the toilet. You can face either direction depending on what your needs are. Just straddle/sit on it like you would the toilet.
Step 3: Turn on the water, adjust the temperature and pressure, and let the water do the work. P.s. the nozzle is usually adjustable.
Step 4: Pat yourself dry with the small towel provided specifically for the bidet.
That's it. Just an extra step for that extra “so fresh and so clean clean” feeling.
Go ahead! Give it a try on your next trip and you might understand why Italians think Americans are odd for NOT using them.
