Last week my husband and I hopped out of an Uber and arrived at a beachside restaurant we had been dying to try. I could already see the ocean as we walked up the gravel path leading up to the entrance. I had done a full sweep of this restaurant's menu online, scanned all the yelp pictures, read a dozen reviews, you know, the usual. I was excited. Well, until I saw Amanda.
As soon as we walked in, there she was, loudly chewing her gum at the hostess stand, refusing to look up. She had long blond hair, an embroidered blouse, and a pair of bright feather earrings. Ten seconds passed. Then twenty. And after what felt like a ridiculous amount of time, she finally looked up. No smile, no welcome, and completely bothered by our existence. “Table for 2.” I said, clearly annoyed with her distasteful welcome. Without looking me in the eye, she starts gesturing to the different sections of the restaurant with the corresponding wait times with a tone that I can only describe as rude. To avoid completely flying off the handle, I looked my husband straight in the eye, and told him I'd meet him at the bar while he handled this atrocity. Amanda. Amanda was the atrocity.
I'm happy to report, the food and drinks were amazing, despite the harsh reception. However, I can't help but wonder why more restaurants don't focus on customer service. Would you go back to a restaurant with amazing food, but shitty service?
