See you next year!

OMG IT'S BEEN A YEAR. And what a hell of a year it was. A lot of drama, a lot of loss, but most importantly, a lot of support from a bunch of internet strangers that brought some much needed light to an incredibly dark time in my life.

Friday mornings are the highlight of my work week. I grab my coffee, a blanket, and I sit crouched over like a pretzel at my dining table staring at my laptop while I wait for my inbox to fill up. And like clock work, your emails come rolling in. Some of you responding to something I said in my newsletter, others with updates on your life or your plans for the weekend, and for some, your incredibly personal stories that I'm so grateful you trust me with.

This newsletter is something I've grown ridiculously proud of, and my only hope is that you look forward to it as much as I look forward to hearing from you every Friday morning. Thank you for being here. You mean so much to me, and I love the shit out of you.

Be where your feet are
Jay Shetty had Scott O'Neil on his show to talk about his then new book (this episode was old), Be Where Your Feet Are and I can't stop thinking about it

While he discusses a lot of great topics from toxic positivity, and the heartbreaking story about how he told his depressed friend to just “be happy” days before he died by suicide, the conversation was focused on being present and intentional with your time. I highly recommend listening, it's linked here.

I of course ended up grabbing his book and I'm halfway through and truly enjoying it. I wouldn't say it's groundbreaking, but it's inspiring and the stories are powerful. The phrase “be where your feet are” essentially means devoting 100% of your attention to whatever situation you're in, aka, where your feet are. And as someone who needs this constant reminder, I found it simple yet so impactful.

And on the note of being intentional with your time, this video made me sob (below).

A look ahead to next year
I'm not big on new year's resolutions, but if there's one thing I'd like to focus on next year, it's a quote I highlighted from one of the best books I read this year, Bittersweet, by Susan Cain, that I think may resonate with many of you. It reads:
