Hello First name / friend

I've been thinking about dandelions lately. I love their bright colour in my yard, joyful little sunshines in my wildly growning grass. My children play with the flowers and the seeds. We feed fresh dandelions to our gerbil, Oreo, as a treat. While many hate this ‘weed’, dandelions have many uses that I could rattle on about. But I'm going to jump right to it with a poem by Nicolette Sowder, below this photo I took today.

May we raise children who love the unloved things
by Nicolette Sowder

May we raise children
who love the unloved
things – the dandelion, the
worms & spiderlings.
Children who sense
the rose needs the thorn

& run into rainswept days
the same way they
turn towards sun…

And when they're grown &
someone has to speak for those
who have no voice

may they draw upon that
wilder bond, those days of
tending tender things

and be the ones.

This morning was a chilly one for May, but my 7 year old and I went out into the garden to check on the baby hummingbird. She stood in her Pjs and sniffed the air appreciatively. She was delighted when I said we could bundle up and eat breakfast outside. She ate Eggo waffles with whipped cream and strawberries while I had a more sensible yogurt and muesli. Then she helped me make this very tiny dandelion video to share with you.

I don't have a particular prompt for you today. You can write or create if you feel inspired. You might like to reflect on childhood memories of dandelions, worms or spiderlings. Or you could go to the garden and explore it from a lower physical perspective like a child. You could take photos or draw something in your sketchbook. Or even write your own poem!

If you feel called to share, I'd love for you to reply to this email or share in our online community. I so very much enjoy seeing and hearing your reactions to Mindful Mondays.

       May you be well,
-Nicole
