Hey First name / there, When was the last time you updated your website? Small details like old photos or broken links can influence how your space is seen by potential members and by search tools such as Google and Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT. In this newsletter, we will cover key areas to check, including accessibility, AI search readiness, SEO basics, content freshness, and more: |
|
1. Accessibility (a11y) To create a better working environment for people with disabilities, the EU enforced the European Accessibility Act as of June 28, 2025, which points digital products toward WCAG 2.1 AA. Similar frameworks exist elsewhere: the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia for example, all have similar rules for public-sector services and recommend WCAG compliance for private businesses. Check for: - Missing Accessibility Statement: Add a short page outlining your commitment to accessibility and note any known issues.
- Poor color contrast (e.g., light gray text on a white background): Use a free contrast checker to ensure all text is readable.
- Images without alt text: Add descriptive alt text to every image so that screen readers can interpret them.
- Avoid vague link labels: Clickable elements should be descriptive and clearly explain their destination or purpose. Make clickable elements descriptive (e.g., “See membership options” instead of “Read more”).

2. Schema (Structured Data) Schema markup is hidden code that helps search engines and LLMs understand your site better. For coworking spaces, this can highlight location, pricing, events, and reviews directly in search results, making you stand out and improving click-through rates. Schema is now especially important for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). Unlike traditional SEO, which focuses on how your site ranks in search engines, GEO is about how your site is interpreted and displayed by AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Bing Copilot. These tools often generate answers from structured data, not just keywords. Check for: - No schema markup at all: Use Google’s free Structured Data Testing Tool to check if any schema is present.
- Missing or incorrect data for your location, hours, events, or pricing.
Add schema for: - Organization (general info about your company)
- Website (helps define your pages' structure and purpose)
- LocalBusiness (include your space’s details)
- Event (upcoming workshops or networking nights)
- Product (membership plans, passes, or services)
|
|
3. Internal Linking Internal links guide both visitors and search engines through your site. They help people discover more of your services and boost the SEO value of important pages. Check for: - Important pages (e.g., Memberships, Tours, Events) have no links pointing to them from other pages: Link from blog posts to your main offers (e.g., “Learn more about our meeting rooms”).
- Broken or outdated links: Run a link checker or manually review key pages. Fix or remove any broken or redirected links.
- No related links at the bottom of pages: Add “related pages” sections (e.g., “See our events calendar” or “Compare membership plans”) to help visitors keep exploring.
|
|
★ Extra tip Use the Screaming Frog SEO Spider tool to scan your site for internal link issues quickly and efficiently. It helps identify broken links, redirect chains, orphan pages, and more. |
|
4. llms.txt llms.txt is a proposed standard that tells AI tools what content they can and can’t use from your site. It works like robots.txt, but instead of telling search engine crawlers what to look at, llms.txt tells AI tools what content they can get information from. Check for: - Missing llms.txt file: Ask your web manager to add an llms.txt file to your website’s root directory, or do it yourself, similar to robots.txt.
- Important public content blocked (e.g., pricing, membership, event info): Include the pages you want AI to reference (About, Memberships, Events) as it helps AI tools present accurate and up-to-date information about your space.
What to include in your llms.txt: A short, natural language summary of your space (what you offer, who it's for). Links to key public pages like About, Memberships, Pricing, and Events. Any other content you want AI tools to understand and share. |

5. Additional GEO Tips GEO is about making your site easy for AI tools to understand and recommend. As more people ask AI, “Where’s the best coworking space near me?” LLMs will rely on clear, well-structured, trustworthy site content. Check for: - Missing or incomplete About page (AI often pulls from this): Keep your About page clear and fact-based (location, mission, services).
- No clear address in text (only in images/maps): Add your full address and city name as plain text on your homepage, contact page, and About page.
- Pricing or amenities buried in PDFs or images: List key pricing, amenities, and event details directly on your website in readable text format. Avoid hiding them inside downloads.

6. General SEO & Content Freshness A site that’s out of date hurts trust, SEO rankings, and conversions. Check for: - Old photos that no longer represent your space: Replace them with current, high-quality images that reflect your space most recently.
- Outdated team bios: Review and update your team section quarterly to reflect your actual staff.
- Blog posts with outdated event info or data: Archive, update, or remove older posts that are no longer relevant. You can also refresh them with new content and republish.
