PREVIOUS WEEKS' NEWSLETTERS:

TIPS FOR WEEK EIGHT:

  • I recommend sewing a basting stitch around the perimeter of your completed quilt top, 1/8" away from the edge. That will help to secure the seams that are exposed on the outer edge of the quilt.

  • If you’re often frustrated by seams not lining up in your quilts, I definitely recommend watching the tutorial linked above. And don’t worry, you don’t need the glue tip shown in the video. An inexpensive bottle of Elmer’s glue works just fine for glue basting!

  • Feel free to press the row seams however you prefer when joining your rows. The pattern recommends pressing seams open to help reduce bulk, but in my own quilt top, I chose to press all of my row seams to the side.

Just a reminder, the QAL grand prize up for grabs is…

  • A $100 gift card to Sewtopia
  • Free edge-to-edge quilting from Julie Hirt
  • A pack of Fineline Glue Tips + an assortment of four patterns from me!

To enter the giveaway, post one photo of your completed Wallflower quilt top to your public Instagram account by June 14th. To make sure I see your post, please tag me — @penandpaperpatterns — directly in the photo (Tagging directly on the photo is the best way for me to see it!).

If you've already posted a photo of your quilt top and tagged me in the caption, you can edit the post so that the tag is on the photo. HERE is a tutorial for tagging a photo on Instagram for anyone that needs it!

And, don't forget! Julie Hirt is offering 20% off edge-to-edge quilting to ALL QAL participants on their Wallflower quilts! Just mention you're from the Wallflower QAL when submitting the request form on her site!
