Hello First name / friend

To celebrate Solstice last week, I went for a solo SUP (stand up paddle boarding) in Comox Bay.  I launched from the beach at Goose Spit also known by its indigenous name, Pelxqikw. It's been windy and cool at times lately but it was so calm this evening. I paddled slowly and gently, taking in the serenity of it all and enjoying that feeling of freedom that comes with floating on the sea (and honestly, skipping putting the kids to bed 😉).

I love the view down into the ocean from the vantage point of standing on the paddle board. The moon jellyfish floated by gracefully, while the white clam and oyster shells seemed to glow from the ocean floor, and the tiny fish flashed their silvery scales. In the calm, I noticed the beautiful reflections as the sky and sea became one. You can see the Beaufort mountain range behind the pier in this photo:

As I paddled back from watching the sunset over Comox Valley, I was delighted to see the gorgeous almost-full strawberry moon rising above Goose Spit. Being such a tree-lover, I found joy in watching and capturing the reflections on the water. Seeing a familiar landscape from the less-familiar perspective of the water was intriguing.

Back on land, with my SUP dried-off and tucked into my van, I went over to the Salish Sea side of the spit to photograph the moon over Hornby Island. I love the light on the grasses and the wisps of pink clouds in the sky. It was such a beautiful evening.

This week I invite you to go for a mindful sit, walk, paddle or swim at sunrise or sunset. What do you notice that is different about the landscape? Do you feel differently  - in your body/spirit -than when you visit this place during the daytime?

I'd love for you to share photos of your local landscape, your artwork or thoughts in our online community. Please join us, if you haven't already and feel free to post!

       May you be well,
        -Nicole
