“Writing is the act of discovery.”
― Natalie Goldberg, Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within
I've been reading Natalie's book during my sundeck mornings. It's one I'd highly recommend. The quote above about writing is so true of any creative practice. I create art and write to discover. What I create on the page - in images and words - can delight me, provide me comfort, surprise me, validate me, question myself, honour my feelings…the list goes on. The discovery isn't always deeply profound, but the opportunities to discover exist because I keep showing up.
This week I invite you to show up for your personal practice. Put your pen or your brush to the page. No lofty intentions. Let it be light. Enjoy the process. If your pathway dives deeper, let it.
Feel free to copy my idea of creating a poem in a jar. Or write a list of wishes. Or free write with the starting prompt, “I thought of a story of…..”
I'd love to hear from you in our
online community. Please join us, if you haven't already and feel free to post your writing, thoughts, creations, photos. We'd love to see it!
Today I'll be hiking to an alpine lake and swimming. And let's hope there will be
chocolate cake at some point too!
